The Great Solar Panel Misunderstanding: A Guide for Installers and Homeowners

Solar panels are a fantastic investment in the future of your home and our planet. They reduce your energy bill, increase the value of your home, and improve your energy label. But it is precisely this last point that often goes wrong. At Renewable Partners, we regularly see that the documentation for solar panels is incomplete, which means we cannot include the panels in the energy label calculation.

At Renewable Partners, we regularly see that the documentation for solar panels is incomplete, which means we cannot fully include the panels in the energy label calculation because no quality declaration can be found.

This is not only frustrating for us, but also for the homeowner, who ends up with a lower energy label than the home actually deserves. This can have consequences for the sale value or the mortgage interest rate. So let's take a closer look at what exactly is needed and how it should be done.

Why is complete information crucial?

An energy label is an official document that shows the energy performance of a home. The calculation is based on the NTA 8800 method, a strict and detailed standard. Every detail of the home, from the insulation value to the installations, is taken into account. Solar panels make an important contribution to a good energy label, but only if the advisor can verify the technical data.

Without the model number of the solar panels, we cannot make a correct and valid recording. Unfortunately, the information below is not sufficient:

The solution: Clear documentation

To ensure that the solar panels are taken into account for the energy label, it is crucial that the installer provides the correct information. These are the three most important points to consider:

  1. Invoice: Ensure that the specific type number of the solar panels is clearly stated on the invoice. This number is the key to the technical specifications required for the calculation.
  2. Completion report: The most watertight evidence is a photo of the sticker on the back of the panels or of the sticker on the inverter. These photos are recorded in a detailed completion report, together with all other relevant technical details. This report is worth its weight in gold for the energy advisor and the homeowner.
  3. Digital delivery: A complete and digital delivery report, including all specifications and numbers, makes the process much smoother and more efficient for everyone. This prevents unnecessary emails, phone calls, and delays.

By following these simple steps, we can work together to guarantee an accurate and fair energy label. Let's all make sure that the significant investments in sustainability receive the recognition they deserve!

I want to upgrade my label!

What is the difference between energy label A and A+++?

The difference lies mainly in the degree of insulation and the proportion of sustainably generated energy. An A label can be achieved with good insulation and an efficient installation. For A+++, more is needed: a large proportion of the energy must be generated sustainably, for example with solar panels and a heat pump.

What requirements must my home meet to qualify for energy label A?

The energy label is determined based on the fossil energy consumption of the home, expressed in kWh/m² per year. For an A label, this value is between 105 and 160 kWh/m² per year. With good insulation, an A label is easily achievable. Homes built after 1991 often already have sufficient basic insulation to fall into this category. Solar panels are therefore not necessarily required to achieve an A label.

What are the benefits of an A label?

  • An A-label home is excellently insulated.
  • You enjoy greater living comfort and lower energy bills.
  • You are contributing to a better climate.
  • Many banks offer interest rate discounts on mortgages for homes with an A label (average 0.1%–0.2%).
  • With an average home value of €387,000, this can amount to savings of €500–€1,500 per year.
  • I want to register my energy label!

While my energy label doesn't matter at all, new residents are going to renovate the entire house, Nik has still made a thorough and clear report of my old farmhouse. TOP job. Thanks

The recording was done carefully. All documents and construction dimensions were checked/recorded by the advisor Ronan van der Loo. And good advice was given. He finished the recording within 2 hours.
